How to Use Write the Room in Pre-k and Kindergarten too

November 18, 2021

My Pre-k students LOVE write the room. We do it on Wednesdays so we call it WRITE THE ROOM WEDNESDAYS!

I actually alternate between alphabet letters and numbers each week so we practice both. But do you know why I love write the room the most… because I love hearing their joy as they help each other. ” I found the A over here,” ” There is the number 5,” ” Which one is the P.” It definitely is not a quiet activity but its a joy to listen to them share and help each other.

Pancake Write the Room

We keep it fairly simple. My students who are first in the door take down the old cards and hide the new cards that i have applied tape to the back too. Yep… they do the work. They love when they are in early enough to help.

Next, I choose a recording sheet that meets my learners needs. At the beginning of the year we circle the correct letter.

Then we will start using mix match sheets for upper and lowercase letters. So if I hang uppercase letters they find lowercase letters.

Back to School Math the Room

By the end of the year my Pre-k Students will use the sheets where they write the correct letter themselves.

How do I do this weekly? My Alphabet and Numbers Mega Bundle includes all my themes and is still growing. Plenty of options to match your weekly or monthly themes. Each set has TWO different themes that is 4 different options.

Or check out the individual themes here.

Farm Themed Count the Room

Lots of opportunities for differentiation cards in each set includes number 0-50, counting by 5’s and 10’s to 120. Not a fan of write the room these cards can also be used to play Kaboom, sneaky letter or number, put in a sensory table, or just used in a pull and write game.

Have a wonderful day ,

I love this opportunity to practice fine motor ski I love this opportunity to practice fine motor skills. I made these with twigs that the students collected, some hot glue, and string. After a donation of fabric from an interior designer, I cut strips for students to weave through. When they are done, they take it apart for the next child. Simple, yet so many skills they can work on. #preschoolactivities #handsonlearning #learningthroughplay #finemotoractivities #prekfinemotoractivities
Nothing beats an after a storm digging pit adventu Nothing beats an after a storm digging pit adventure. These kiddos discussed fears, worked together, created goals, did some heavy lifting, and sifting. What could be more beneficial… sure I could have said don’t get messy, or poured the water out, but when a group takes on the play and owns it who am I to take it away. Of course I took a serving of the ice cream who wouldn’t! #Outdoorplay #prekoutsideactivities #playisbest #preschoolsctivities
Free Write Friday is one of my favorite activities Free Write Friday is one of my favorite activities during the school year. It becomes one of those weekly traditions the kids beg for. It's simple. First, we read and book and focus on beginning writing skills, think shapes, color choice, adding details, and eventually adding words using inventive spelling.

I love how the journal shows real progress for each child. I love seeing their creativity...they can write about anything. I love the opportunity to hear them share about their illustration. How do you include writing in a meaningful way?"

One of my favorite parts of the classroom? Who am One of my favorite parts of the classroom? Who am I kidding? I love my whole room, but I do love my inquiry table.

This space invites children to explore concepts without any set rules and regulations other than using the materials respectfully. As you can see, it doesn't have to be fancy or Pinterest-perfect; it just needs to invite wonder. 💛

Do you have an inquiry space in your classroom, or is it something you're hoping to create this year?
